A narrator colleague recently sent a link for an audition he thought would be a good fit for my voice. “Check this out, Art. You’re PERFECT for it!” The piece calls for a “grandfatherly” voice for a children’s book. No hiding it any longer. Unprompted, a seasoned (mature) vibe apparently is among the qualities folks notice. It’s predictable (for me, at least) in my mind I’m never as “seasoned” as my drivers license says I am, so there’s that. Dusting off my ego, I am growing to acknowledge my sixty-something sound, and to embrace genres my youthful-voiced counterparts can only dream of!
