I’ve always heard/known of the importance to hydrate well, when it comes to physical exertion and the benefits to good health, in general. The thing is, I’m not an avid water drinker so it’s a thing I have to be very intentional about. It’s pretty basic for veterans, but since venturing into the world of audiobook narration, the hydration “gold standard” clicks with me even bigger. I’ve learned there are very cool things I can do in my recording software (the DAW, for you in the voiceover community) to jazz up my read. A sound engineer I am not, but digital tricks are not the cure. Shout out to the guys with whom I talk shop, who consistently preach that optimal production in the booth does not happen without proper hydration, and that’s not just “getting a drink of water”. Nope, MULTIPLE bottles of water, consumed hours before recording is key to producing an excellent narration. Entering the booth, I can now be found with my HP notebook, headphones, iPad and Dasani. Here’s to quality narration!
