I chuckle to hear folks still refer to audiobooks as “books on tape”. But to be sure, high tech’s brought us audiobooks, podcasts, and the Kindle reader, opening new worlds of content enjoyment. A shout out nonetheless to lovers of books who insist the feel of the page and smell of the ink is the best way to truly enjoy a good book. What’s your media of choice? Perhaps the printed, or digital page are both options for you?

My father went blind and loved what we call talking books. I love both the printed and audio books.

I prefer to listen to audiobooks and I listen to them a lot. I don’t sit still long enough to read a physical book. If I do sit still, it’s because I’m doing something while I’m sitting still (like type this message). I love that I can listen while I work outside, take a walk, or drive in the car. Some people have trouble staying focused to an audiobook. I never have that problem. I will say though that it is still better to have a physical book when it comes to teaching from a book or keeping one in your reference library.

An additional two cents regarding digital books:
Traveling with our young children years ago, “digital” books helped us all endure 16 hours of travel especially when the day became night.
Second cent:
After our children flew the coop, my wife and I enjoyed listening to books on CDs as we traveled from here to there in State, until one time, as the driver, I was so engrossed in the story that I realized I had no idea where we were on the highway. What a dangerous situation I had put us in.
